1815

A tradition that never stands still

The 1815 watch family represents the contemporary interpretation of our traditional values, discreet elegance and constancy. Its name refers to the birth year of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, the founder of German precision watchmaking. The watches emulate his character, exhibiting a graceful unpretentiousness yet simultaneously embodying our amibition to never stand still.

Thus, the 1815 models feature elements that were typically found in A. Lange & Söhne historic pocket watches, merging these with the know-how and technical possibilities of today. The artisanal finish of the movements endows these watches with timeless beauty.

Elegant design with traditional origins

It was Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s vision to craft pocket watches that are a harmonious fusion of precision, functionality and elegance. His watchmaking ideals and his quest for perfection are reflected in the 1815 models.

The dial design is subtle yet rich in detail, incorporating many design elements of historic pocket watches. The no doubt most prominent feature is the peripheral railway-track minute scale. The timepiece thus builds a bridge into the era of nascent rail travel, at a time when pocket watches became ever more important, and when Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded his company in Glashütte. The easily legible Arabic numerals are also reminiscent of that epoch.

The sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the character of the 1815. It shows a meticulously finished, precisely running movement, often with traditionally implemented classic complications that only few watchmakers today are capable of adjusting.

In typical A. Lange & Söhne manner, technical complexity is paired with superb artisanal finishing. Whether clearly visible or concealed, all parts of the movement are elaborately decorated. Hence, the balance cock is engraved by hand while the endpiece of the escape wheel is flat-polished. Plates and bridges made of untreated German silver are adorned with Glashütte ribbing, levers with straight graining and wheels with circular graining. Circumferential chamfers are polished by hand.

Horological complications in a classic design

The 1815 watch family comprises simpler models as well as timepieces with highly complex mechanisms. Ambitious combinations can be found here, such as the 1815 RATTRAPANTE PERPETUAL CALENDAR, which unites three classic complications. The chronograph functions are controlled by the classic design featuring two column wheels.

The 1815 CHRONOGRAPH, with subsidiary dials that are shifted slightly downward, showcases its classic origins as well. Fifth-of-a-second stopped times, the precisely jumping minute counter and the flyback function are testament to innovative precision.

In a unique way, the 1815 TOURBILLON embodies our aspiration to never stand still. For the first time, the A. Lange & Söhne watchmakers combined the stop-seconds mechanism for the tourbillon with the ZERO-RESET function. The interaction of both mechanisms make it possible to stop the tourbillon at will and set the watch with one-second accuracy. When the crown is pulled, the balance inside the tourbillon cage is stopped immediately and the seconds hand instantly jumps to the zero position.
